Wipe Down Surfaces Regularly
Fortunately, you can use an ant’s biology to help rid your home of these insects. Colonies will send out scout ants to forage and find food. Once they locate something, there are sure to be more on the way.
If you start to notice scouts, you can kill them and wipe down their trail. While this will keep the colony at bay, you’ll might see more scouts later on. If so, then you’ll have to identify the source.
Seal Cracks and Entrances
In most cases, ants will establish a nest outside and then forage inside for food. So, the easiest way to prevent them from getting in is to seal these entry points for good. Ideally, you’ll be able to follow a scout to wherever it came in so that you can be sure you’ll find the right spot.
Inside vs. Outside Ants
Depending on where the nest is, you’ll have to take different approaches to prevent ants from taking over. If the colony is outside, you’ll want to track it down for removal. If it’s inside, then you’ll need to call and speak with Arkadia’s Local Experts to locate and exterminate the nest. Unfortunately, indoor ants can’t be prevented with cleaning, no matter how good you are at it.
Keep Food Out of Reach
Typically, ants will go for the easiest and most accessible food source. So, if you have leftovers on the counter or dirty dishes in the sink, they can become feasts for a colony. The best way to prevent ants is to remove any temptation. Store food in airtight containers (so they can’t smell it) and keep it off the counter if possible.
